Music

Music is an essential part of life at Zion.

Come Join the Chancel Choir!

Singing is a unique way to bring our hearts, souls and minds together in order to focus on God. Ephesians 5:19 says we should, “sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.” The entire congregation worships through singing. However, the Chancel Choir offers an opportunity to enrich the worship experience for the singer as well as the congregation. The Chancel Choir is rehearsing on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:20pm in the new choir room just outside the sanctuary folding doors. You do not need to be able to read music to join the choir. We work together and lean on each other to learn the music. It’s a mission within a mission to be in the Chancel Choir. Come and join us! Message from the Choir Director – June 2026

Rhonda Behrends

Dear Zion Congregation, as we end the choral year, I want you to know how much the choir, musicians, Sheri and myself have appreciated your support these last few years.

All of us feel that our music ministry should enhance the service and its message. We do not consider it a performance but an offering to God. Some songs we sing praise God and are upbeat while some are more prayerful and soft. We enjoy knowing that it touched you. So the question at times is when to clap and when to not clap? For an upbeat praising song, your clapping says “Amen!”. Psalm 47:1 says “Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout unto God with loud songs of joy!” For a more  reflective piece of music, no clapping is needed. We hope the song touched your heart. You can murmur a soft amen or take a moment to thank a choir member after the  service. Your feedback helps us improve our efforts and lets us know what you experienced as a worshipper. This summer we will have different volunteers providing special music. I am so thankful for all these volunteers who feel led to do music ministry. Thank you for continuing to support our efforts to enhance the worship at Zion.

~Sincerely, Rhonda Behrends

Benefits of Church Choirs

From a Washington Post article

Choirs are large families, said the paper. Singing in them promotes social bonding and joy. Choir members are more optimistic, less lonely, more likely to contribute positively to community. A sense of achievement comes from creating notes with the body and working together to master a work. The text is often inspiring and beautiful, so despite the day’s travails, choir members leave rehearsals feeling “this is a very positive thing that I can be a part of.” The Bible knew that all along. Choirs are a biblical part of God’s scheme of worship! Don’t miss it in your church!
