
Rhonda Behrends has served as choir director at Zion Lutheran Church since September 2022. Rhonda has a Bachelor of Music Education degree and a Bachelor of Elementary Education degree from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). Mrs. Behrends taught music at the middle school and elementary levels as well as teaching first and fourth grade before retiring in 2007. Rhonda directed the choir at Trinity Lutheran Church for 15 years. She joined Zion Lutheran Church in 2004 and sang in the Zion Chancel Choir under Mark Hierholzer and Ray Salinas. She started the Zion Gospel Singers at Zion. Rhonda has a lifetime love of singing and has sung in many choirs over the years such as the Southwest Texas (SWT) University Chorale, the Corpus Christi Community Choir and the Fredericksburg Community Chorale. While singing with the SWT Varsity Chorale, she toured Switzerland for six weeks and had the opportunity to sing in many beautiful European cathedrals. Rhonda has also enjoyed performing in musicals at Fredericksburg Theater Company (FTC) since 2010. She served as music director for Frozen Jr. and Spamalot at FTC as well as directing The Lion King and Shrek for Fredericksburg Community Education’s summer musicals. The Chancel Choir, under the direction of Rhonda Behrends, sings a variety of music genres including traditional and contemporary music as well as gospel music. If you are considering joining the choir, Rhonda will provide study aids to help you to learn a part. She encourages anyone who loves singing to join the Chancel Choir as they work together to enrich the worship at Zion Lutheran Church.
