A Reception for our High School Graduates will be held on Sunday, May 22, between services starting at 9:00 AM. All are welcome.

- February 2017 -

The Special Concern for February is Zion WELCA. As members of Zion, all women are members of WELCA. Every first Thursday of the month, the women meet for Bible study in the Sewing room at 1:30 pm. They also serve on the Altar Guild, visit shut-ins, prepare and serve food after funerals, make quilts and kits for Lutheran World Relief as well as support many other charitable projects. Your support is most appreciated.

A Farewell Potluck Dinner for the Hartmanns on Sunday, February 12, at 11:30 AM in Fellowship Hall. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.

- January 2017 -

Special Concern for January
Cross Trails Ministry is a year round camp and retreat ministry that provides unique settings and experiences for youth, adults and families to strengthen relationships with Christ, each other, the church and the community.

- December 2016 -

There will be 2 Christmas Eve services at 6 PM and 9 PM. The 6 PM service will be broadcast live on KNAF radio 910 am. 

The Weekday Morning Bible Study will meet at 11 AM in the Library on Wednesdays during Advent.

Special Concern for December is the Little Lambs Angel Tree, where members of the congregation purchase gifts for the families of the Little Lambs Early Head Start program to provide a Merry Christmas for the children and their family members.

Special Concern for August is
The Good Samaritan Center, a charitable clinic meeting critical health needs for Gillespie County and some of our surrounding area. They provide quality, coordinated, and affordable health care, as well as health and wellness education and information to their patients in a Christ-centered, safe environment.

VBS - Day Camp  will be held at Zion the week of July 4 - 8. Registration forms are available in the church office or can be downloaded from this site.

Special Concern for July is 
the Lutheran World Relief, 
a nonprofit organization that works with local partners to provide lasting solutions to poverty, injustice and human suffering. In 2015, your support of LWR reached over 4 million people in 36 countries. LWR support farmers & agriculture, responds to emergencies, enhances water access & quality, reduces risk of disaster and climate and improves health & livelihoods. 


- JUNE -

Special Concern for June is 
the Gillespie Literacy Council. They strive to increase literacy in Fredericksburg by offering classes in Basic Literacy, ESL and Citizen Preparation. This past year approximately 58 students in the fall and 47 in the spring registered for these classes.  

- MAY -

We thank God for our Confirmand, Jarris Hawkins, our 2 high school graduates; Kaitlin Huizinga and Cole Bourgeois and all our new members.

Special Brunch
on Sunday, May 15, at 9 am to honor our Confirmand, Jarris Hawkins, our high school graduates and our new members. Everyone (except our honorees) are asked to bring a breakfast casserole, juice, sweet rolls or fruit.

Fellowship Lunch
will meet this month on Sunday May 22 at Andy’s Diner at 11:45 am. If you are new to the group, call 997-2509 to RSVP. 

Special Concern for May is 
Zion Women of the ELCA. These women serve on the Altar Guild, visit shut-ins, provide food at funerals, make quits for LWR and distribute the Altar flowers. They meet on the first Thursday of each month at 1:30 pm.

Fellowship Lunch
meets every third Sunday at Andy’s Diner at 11:45 am. If new to the group call 997-2509 to RSVP. 

A Mardi Gras potluck 
will be held next Sunday, Feb. 7 in Fell Hall after the 10:30 am Worship. Everyone is invited to bring German or other Mardi Gras dishes to share. Cajun perhaps?

The Living Lent  Series 
begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 10 with Worship at noon and 7 pm. 

Special Concern for February

Fredericksburg Food Pantry. Please bring food donations or, even better, you may give an offering for the purchase of food. See page 6 of the February Chimes for more information.  

Bible Study
Pastor Hartmann will be leading a Bible Study on Tuesdays at 11am in the sewing room. The studies will be on the lessons for the following Sunday. Starting on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 10, the Bible studies will be on Wednesday mornings at 11 am.

Forums for Congregation Meeting
to discuss 2016 budget and capital improvements for Zion. Sessions will be this Sunday, 1/24, 9:15 pm (Fellowship Hall), Wednesday, 1/27, 1 pm (Conference Room), and  Thursday, 1/28, 5:30 pm (Sewing Room). Please plan to attend so that our 2016 Annual Meeting on Sunday, 1/31/16, 11:40 am, will go smoothly!

New Years Eve Prayer Service

Zion will host a short Prayer Service at 11:50pm on New Year's Eve. At midnight those attending can help ring in the New Year on the church bells.

The 6PM Christmas Eve Worship Service 
will be broadcast live on KNAF radio 910 am

Special Concern for December.
We still need baby diapers and youth pull-ups as well as adult diapers for the Diaper Drive.

was voted best tasting at the Fall Festival.

Special Concern for September

The Benefit BBQ 
raised over $3000. The proceeds will be distributed to our Little Lambs Early Head Start program, the Good Samaritan Center and the Needs Council.

Day Camp at Zion
will be July 20–24 from 8:30am–3:00pm for children who have completed grades K-5. Older youth are invited to volunteer. The Day Camp is limited to 30 youth.

Special Emphasis for April
The Special Emphasis for April are three ministries of the ELCA: World Hunger, Disaster relief and the Treatment of Malaria—hunger continues to abound, disasters occur and malaria plagues the lives of many despite being preventable at very low cost. 

- MARCH -

Tips for Easter Vigil on Cross Mountain
—Dress warm and casual.  Generally it is breezy and cool on the hillside.
—Flashlights are handy.
—Bring a chair and/or a blanket to sit on.
—Wear hiking shoes vs. dress shoes, high heels, etc.

Easter
The Easter Sunrise Vigil Worship will begin at 6:30 on Cross Mountain. Worship Services in the sanctuary will follow at 8:00 and 10:30am. The full Holy Week schedule is here.

Potluck honoring new members
On Sunday, March 11, at 11:30am we will have a potluck dinner to honor our new members. Please bring a dish to share.
