Pastor's Devotion for a week beginning January 4, 2017

Exodus 3: 4When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!"And Moses said, "Here I am." 5"Do not come any closer," God said. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground."

Wouldn’t it be cool to stand on Holy Ground?

Seems to me Moses had it made.

Standing in God’s presence, and all.

But it had to be frightening:

A bush on fire with no ashes;

The voice of God speaking with no person present;

Removing one’s foot covering to stand “naked" before God.

A little unnerving, I would say.

Yet, a God moment.

What will yours be in 2017?

Will you let them happen?

Will the power of the Holy Spirit rush through you to change you?

Answers are "Not sure," "I should" and "It will, in spite of me."

Moses didn’t have much choice.

He had a real live God moment.

The one’s you and I have may not be as forthright or powerful.

But they are real.

And we should take them for what they are:

Set apart.

For God.

And when they happen, in the smallest of ways, others should benefit.

Because when God touches us in love and grace, in the death and resurrection of Jesus, we are bound to share.

And the truth is, everywhere we are is Holy Ground.

That is something to celebrate with thanksgiving and generosity.

Lord, remind us we are always on Holy Ground.  Amen
